My midwife, Charlotte Easton, has been amazing! I have seen her for all but one appointment. She has been very supportive and reassuring and has really built my trust. Charlotte went out of her way to visit me at home one evening on a day when she'd had to cancel my appointment due to attending a home birth. The only issues I have had with the service, were at the start when my doctor didn't pass on my referral and there seemed to be a lot of confusion about the referral process within the doctor's surgery. My bloods taken at 28 weeks also got lost, which I was unaware with until my midwife flagged. Would seem to make sense that you receive results whatever the diagnosis, rather than being told that you'll only hear if something is wrong.

Review of Postnatal Community - 0598 written by a patient
4th April 2018

I cannot praise this postnatal community care service highly enough. The Ashridge Team was outstanding and the quality of maternity care I experienced significantly improved as soon as I came under their care. Being looked after by the same midwives for my antenatal and postnatal care in the community was a huge support and relief and meant that my midwives knew my complex obstetric history and care needs and so were able to provide the right help at the right times. It also meant that I knew them well and could contact them with any questions whenever I needed to which was invaluable. Continuity of care with the same friendly team was a major help in preparing for my second child's arrival by caesarean section and in recovering really smoothly afterwards. The exceptional care we received from the Ashridge team made us feel safe, really well looked after and fully informed.

Review of Accident & Emergency - 0236 written by a family member

All the staff in A&E work extremely hard in very difficult circumstances. There were over 70 people to deal with at the time we were there! Considering this everyone of the staff we saw were patient, helpful and professional. Watford is an example of how underfunded our NHS is.

My very elderly mother was admitted via A&E and two other locations to Gade ward. With the exception of A&E, where more senior staff did seem to have some skills but were deeply disorganised, the culture in this hospital is one of callousness and of indifference to pain or distress. I found the staff to be lazy and uncaring to the point of cruelty. I was also horrified by a lack of basic understanding and of communication skills, both between staff and with patients and carers. A small but significant example of the lack of care: my mother, who was very poorly and has since died, was unable to eat unaided (although very hungry); an unopened plastic pot of vegetable dhal was plonked on the table in front of her and later removed untouched without question or comment by a staff member who did not look at her or speak to her. When I asked for details of her medication, the staff member was unable to pronounce the name of the drug or tell me what it was for. Everybody associated with this hospital should be deeply ashamed of themselves and of what is going on here. We all know that the NHS is stretched to breaking point, but for God's sake, people, show a little kindness and humanity - it goes a very long way.

Review of Postnatal Community - 0598 written by a patient
15th March 2018

This is my second baby and once again I’ve been blown away by the level of care our midwives and health visitors have shown to myself and my family. The time they have given for me to just talk about my labour and for us to ask the questions we needed to is invaluable. I have received excellent advice on sleeping. I can’t thank them enough for their humanistic, holistic, professional approach.

I would like to see the midwife slightly more regularly at the beginning of pregnancy. From the first 16 week appointment there is a long gap. I appreciated the fact I could always get a slot when I wanted one, and my midwife was happy to see me at 40 weeks even though this isn’t standard for a third pregnancy.

I am very grateful to all involved in my care and rehabilitation, from ICU and Cleaves Ward, All were understanding in my needs and explained everything to me regarding my treatment.Special thanks to my named nurse, Cheyvone, Macmillan nurses, physio, and everyone involved in my care. Including cleaners and tea lady, also phlebotomy department, x-Ray, scanning staff who were brilliant, and porters always chatty and helpful even in the middle of the night. Thank you.
